2017 Enrolments

Posted on December 7, 2016 by andrea

Are you thinking of studying Fashion Design in 2017?  We have various levels of courses on offer, with enrolments due to open on December 16.

In 2017 we move to deliver the new CUA training package and as such have adjusted our delivery pattern at our foundational level qualifications from a 1 year Cert IV, to a 1 semester Cert III followed by a 1 semester Cert IV.  The new course content aligns with the full year delivery mode but has been broken up into semester courses for both course areas of Fashion Design and Fabric Design & Print.

Both the Cert III Design Fundamentals CUA30715 and the Cert IV Design CUA40715 are on the NSW Skills List and we offer subsidised places to eligible students.

Starting with an introductory level Cert III Design Fundamentals, you’ll learn skills in Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration, Fashion CAD, Fibre & Fabric Selection, Colour, Fashion Business and Technical Drawing.  This course runs for 1 semester full time or 2 semesters Part Time Evening.

Following successful completion of the Cert III, you will then have the option to continue on to the Cert IV Design and extend on the skills learnt in semester 1. The Cert IV Design also runs for 1 semester. In this course you will develop more comprehensive skills in Fashion Design, Fashion CAD and Fashion illustration, whilst also being introduced to life drawing and basic sewing and patternmaking skills.  With an emphasis on identifying a design signature, you will participate in a Brand Proposal project supported in design, illustration and fashion business, where you will develop the concept for a new label and design the launching collection presenting it to a panel with all required supporting documentation.

At the end of the 1 year of studying you will have developed skills and knowledge in fashion design and the capabilities to develop a portfolio of work for a submission into the Bachelor of Fashion Design.

This course area also begins at the Cert III Design Fundamentals area, but with a strong focus on fabric print design. You will study introductory skills in colour and print design, digital print design and set up, and illustration. You will spend 5 hours per week in the screen printing studio where you will learn valuable skills in screen printing placement and yardage prints in single or multiple colours. This is an applied method of learning with studio based projects.

Following the successful completion of the Cert III, you will have the option of continuing on to the Cert IV Design where you will build on your acquired skills and knowledge and extend your capabilities with more complex projects and designs.

After the completion of both the Cert III and Cert IV you will be able to extend your skills further and develop your own range of printed textiles and products in the Diploma of Textile Design & Development. Please note that the Cert III and IV are both pre-requisites for entry into the Diploma.
