Diploma Live Production & Technical Services (Theatre Costume)


This course offers students the chance to specialise in the realisation and construction of costumes for theatre, film and television.

You will study the historical and social context of the evolution of costume through independent research supported by a series of lectures and museum visits.

Students will be guided through a broad range of specialist and technical skills including:

  • Corsetry and underpinnings
  • Character costume making
  • History of dress
  • Theatrical Millinery
  • Art finishing
  • Period costume cutting and draping
  • Theatrical tailoring
  • Tutu making
  • Period costume making
  • Costume for dance
  • Script breakdown
  • Costume design

Costumes studied are supported by a course team made up of specialist professional costumiers and designers currently working within the theatre, film and television industries as well as educational specialists who ensure the development of a simulated working process informed by current industry practice.

There are opportunities to exhibit work in a performance context at the annual showcase stage show and exhibition.

The Cert III Applied Fashion Design & Technology is a pre-requisite for this course.
